How's this build?

Spagetti

My future build that I'm planning to compile:

  • CPU
    i5-4460
  • Motherboard
    Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2
  • RAM
Crucial 16GB Ballistix Sport Kit (4x4)
  • GPU
    Radeon R9 290X (after-market edition obviously - stock sucks)
  • Case
Corsair Obsidian 750D (I know it's expensive but why not - it looks pretty with a rabbit hat on it)
  • Storage
    Samsung 256GB 840 PRO SSD
  • PSU
    Corsair CX750 Modular
  • Display(s)
    LG 24MP76HM-S (1080p 24" IPS 5ms response time)
  • Cooling
    Stock
  • Keyboard
    Qilive Blue LED
  • Mouse
    Any
  • Sound
    5.1 Sound Blaster Creative FX-Fi
  • Operating System
    Windows 10

Could you tell me if it's decent or not? If you think it sucks, please tell me why. (BTW I'm an NVIDIA fanboy and I'd go for a 780 TI but that's just too expensive in terms of price/performance atm)

I'd get the unlocked CPU, easier to sell later on if you plan on it, and also if you want to overclock.

There's an ACX 780 Ti on Newegg's eBay page for $350 if you want. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-03G-P4-2884-RX-GeForce-GTX-780-Ti-Superclocked-3GB-384-Bit-GDDR5-PCI-Expres-/381189196971?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58c0a58cab

It's a solid machine, good for 1440p gaming definitely, 1080p is more than fine. However, I wouldn't buy that CPU and that motherboard together, just because if you're buying one of the more expensive Z97 boards you should get an overclockable CPU. As well, the CX750 is a lackluster PSU. It won't blow your system up or anything, but it definitely isn't the best platform or quality.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 512GB SKHynix PC401, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x Micron 1100 256GB SATA SSDs | GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Lian Li SP 850W

Well, I wasn't planning to overclock anything especially not the CPU because it greatly reduces its lifespan. Anyway, anything above 3.00ghz is just fine in my hoomble opinion. I'm not the kind of person to care about a few FPS difference that I could gain from overclocking CPU. What matters the most is the GPU.

"It greatly reduces lifespan"

If you don't do it right and have decent cooling, yes. Keep the voltage under 1.325V and temps below 80C and you will be fine for longevity. The base frequency of a 4690K against a 4460 is already enough to offer fair improvements in FPS, and overclocking it as high as it can go on stock voltage will help even more without impacting longevity in the slightest.

I'd suggest getting a cheaper mobo, there is no need for that one, specially with your CPU. And get another cooler for the CPU, the stock one is not only ugly, but it's noisy. Get a Cooler Master TX3, once you set it up it never needs to ramp the speed up, it's just going to be quiet the whole time (and looks decent).

Damn, thanks for your efforts. Pretty nice build for $1k. I'll take this into consideration.

Times changed a lot regarding that.... There is basically no drawback on a stable OC.

It looks pretty good. I would get 8gb of ram unless you need the 16gb for servers/video editing. Also the build above this post is really good too so I would check that out and compare that with your build.

Well, I haven't had any experience with overclocking CPU yet so I'd rather avoid doing it.

That's fair enough, you shouldn't do anything you're not comfortable with right this second if it's your first build.
