Hey guys,

I recently converted to pc gaming ( I was a console gamer before ) and I want to build my own cutom pc. I already chose some of my pieces but I need help to complete my computer with the right components. Here are the parts I already selected:

  • Graphic card : Gigabyte Geforce GTX 970 G1 Windforce
  • Processor : Intel Core i5-4690
  • Motherboard : Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 ( Not sure about that one though )

So I would need you guys to help me pick a memory, a storage, a power supply and a case. Also, if you think that one of the parts I already selected isn't good enough, please let me know. I have a budget of about 1,300 $.

Thank you in advance

PS: I don't want to overclock my computer.

for the power supply, i would recommend a xfx xtr 750w power supply. as far as power supplies go, this is a bit overkill but should be great for future-proofing. also has a hybrid silent fan mode and 80 plus gold efficiency. right now its on sale on newegg canada for about $100 after rebate. i think this is the power pick for your build right now. heres the link:

If you don't want to overclock your PC, then:

Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($108.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($350.82 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case  ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1169.69

Why a Xeon? It's cheaper than an i7, and performs similar to it, the model i choose is 4 cores/ 8 threads (could be useful for video editing :D )

i would also recommend a 240gb ssd or a 120gb one for your boot up drive and main applications. here is one i like and think is good for the price. it is ocz's arc 100 series and has decent write/read speeds and has decent 4k random read/write speeds as well. about $110 after rebate, here's the link.

WELL..

what type of games do you play?

how much space do you have on your desk? this is for the form factor which is the size of the case

do you need other peripherals such as mouse.. mouse pad.. keyboard.. speakers or headsets..

do you need a monitor?

Pcpartpicker.com is a good place to browse around and start as well. It also lets you monitor the prices or products in your region and alerts you when products get to a desired price. Definitely spend a lot of time here first as you can see what other have built and used.

This is going to be an overwhelming process for the first time, but also very exciting. People  on the forum are all very nice and are here to help. So definitely come back with questions after a bit of research.

Can you afford the i7 5820k? You will be good to go if you do have the extra cash

But the i7-5820K isn't a good idea if the rig is used mainly for gaming, the fps increase isn't that much, i7-4790K is great already in gaming, even i5-4690, you don't have to get X99. If talking about gaming, spend more to the GPU. If you can afford 2x 970 or 1x 980, maybe you should go for that instead.

This would be a kick butt gaming machine with no over clocking needed and would last for several years at running 1080p to 4k in some games. Also case is expensive and can always be changed but looks great.

Ps. Don't forget thermal paste

Enjoy!

This one is great, but it's over your budget though..... I'd get Z97 motherboard if I were you, better overclocking (i7-4790"K"). Also switching the PSU to 500W.

I'm going to message you because building a PC is fun but getting the right parts for the things you are looking to do with you PC is the hard part. You want to make sure your case is compatible with your motherboard and a ton of other things. I suggest going to pcpartpicker.com

Since over budget change ssd to a 128 Gb like this and call it a day since you don't want to overclock!

Thanks to everybody for the help! I just want to add some precisions I forgot to mention before. First, my budget is in canadian dollars and I dont know if the builds you guys proposed are in this currency. Second, I intend to use my pc to play games (Star Citizen), and I want my computer to be powerful enough to run current and future games at high. Third, no I haven't purchased any of my parts yet, I'm waiting to have my full build all planned before buying any of the components. Forth, I intend to use a Hard drive memory at first and wait for the new M2 and NVME ssd to complement my Hard drive. For the power supply, I found one Partpicker.com a r CORSAIR CX series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply, what do you guys think? (I don't know if it has all the cables I need). The case will be ATX mid tower. I already own the peripherals. Again thanks to you guys for the help :)
