Hey people... I have a laptop I have had for a while that has a Windows xp key on so I go get a xp os disc and do a install... The computer is telling me the key is wrong ? Help

well did u type it right?

and did you use the same version of xp?

You need an OEM copy of XP which is made/modified by the company who built your computer. If you can find the original XP installation disc (if your computer even came with one) then the key will work. Otherwise the key is useless. I've got an XP Home key on my old custom built desktop, do you want me to message it to you?

You can send me that key to try... It's defo a xp home premium oem disc .. .

O one second the disc is Windows xp home addition... My key is home premium is that why ?

They are the same thing, its just manufacturers like to screw with people.

Enjoy your laptop, and if you can get an SSD for it, XP on an SSD is insane (when fully optimized for an SSD of course). With my old laptop, from pressing the power button to being on the desktop takes less than 10 seconds.
