Hello people.

I have recently installed a new graphics card (r9 290x) and have also bought a new PSU (Antec true power 750w). However my computer can run games and everything completely fine however when I am on the desktop or doing tasks that are not intensive the computer will freeze and it will either restart or say that the display driver has stopped responding. When it restarts it turns back on and I get the error message attached to this text. I have no Idea what I need to do to fix this however if anyone could tell me it would bee much appreciated.

your gpu is it 8 + 6 pin? If yes, are you using just 1 wire from psu to gpu to connect? If yes, try using 2 wire from psu to gpu. 1 wire connects the 8 pin and the other wire connects the 6 pin. At least this is what I did in the past and solved the issue.

Hello thank you for your responses. I have not overclocked the card and I do have the 8 and 6 pins on different cables from my PSU.

when you install the GPU

did you use a fresh install of the GPU drivers?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I installed the GPU a few days ago.

I previously had an r9 270 in there which I used Uninstall a program in control panel and display driver uninstaller to remove the old drivers. I then put the new card in and installed the latest catalyst drivers. (14.12 Omega)

I fixed the display driver has stopped responding issue by this link however it still restarts:
