Good day all.

I've been reading reviews and listening to Linus/Hardware Kannucks, and a few others I've stumbled across the past month or so. I think I've come down to a decision on how I would like to build my gaming PC. I'm trying to build the system for around $2000 and I want to have a fairly "future proof" gaming PC for at least a couple years. I want to be able to play at maximum graphics on today's games. I'm not afraid to change out video cards in a couple years or even double up, but for now I want to stick with a single card config as I'm unsure about SLI. To be honest, my biggest reasoning right now is to build a gaming PC for Elite dangerous and Star Citizen. Mostly the latter...

I7 - 4790K Unlocked

Asus Maximus VII Hero ATX LGA1150

Asus GTX 980 Strix

Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133 16GB

Corsair 760t

EVGA Supernova 850 G@ 80 Plus Gold (Fully Modular)

Corsair H100I GTX

Samsung EVO 250GB SSD

Here's my reasoning :

- I've opted for the I7 since I sometimes tinker with video editing and I would rather cover all my bases right off the bat. I have no immediate plans to OC, but I don't want to rule it out. From what I see, the I5 Haswell is certainly overclockable, but the I7 is better. Plus I like knowing I have an I7. Kind of like saying you have a V8 mustang vs. V6. Just sounds better IMO.

- I'm going with the Asus board since many reviewers speak highly of it. Although it may be a little overkill, I'm really liking the look since I will have a windowed case, and from what I understand, it will be a great board for future SLI and OC. I'm open to other options. The Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-Black is nice as well and my second choice. I'm on the fence and need opinions....

- Asus GTX 980 mainly because I feel an Asus video card will work well with the Asus MB. I've also seen enough reviews that say its an excellent card. Although if I go with the Gigabyte board I will look at the Gigabyte GTX 980.

- Corsair Vengeance PRO, no specific reason. It's a solid MFR and I like the color matching for either the Asus or Gigabyte setup.

- Corsair 760t. I find the case to be beautiful and I would like to have a ton of room for the future. I also plans to do some custom lighting. Second choice would be the Switch 810. However, I feel that with all the similarities between the two, it boils down to more of a personal choice.

- EVGA 850. I like this one from the reviews obviously, but I also like the 80+ Gold rating and cost.

- Corsair, H100I GTX. Although I'm not OC'ing now, I again want to be ready for it should I need to when Star Citizen comes out. (Or if I just feel like it one day)... This one also allows me to adjust the coloring of the LEDs. (Silly I know)

- Samsung EVO, since I already have one.

Let me know what you guys think.

Have a good one.

The build I am currently saving up for is very similar, I just want a 4690k, a different motherboard and 8gb but everything else is the same.

So I think it's really good, although I don't know why you're getting 2133mhz ram, is it on sale or something?

CPU: 6600K @ 4.6Ghz | COOLER: H100i GTX | MOBO: Asus Z170 AR | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti Hybrid | RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB |

CASE: Corsair 760T | PSU: Corsair RM750x | STORAGE: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & Seagate 2TB | KEYBOARD: K70 RGB | MOUSE: Deathadder Elite

Sounds like a great system with good motivations on why you have the different hardware. The only thing could be to add a 1tb harddrive since games like star citizen uses up a sick amount of gb

FX-8350 GTX760 16GB RAM 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD

Hey guy,

i don't know if it's too late, but i'd recommend staying away from the 760t. It's basically a plastic box, very flimsy in general. It looks good, maybe, but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it
