Rendering CPU

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

I'll check them out.

Haha yeah its all good, and I think that is what I'm leaning towards to save some money, if I dont like the performance I can always return the MB to newegg  withing 30 days lol.

Yea, but in truth, even a 3.8ghz i5-3570k is going to deliver you some of the best gaming performance available. An overclock won't hurt, but it won't help out a tremendous amount except in those very CPU bound games. An OC will help a lot with render times. A z77 mobo is all I would go with right now. Low cost, highest potential gains.

I was wondering if I should upgrade my i5 3570k to a i7 Devils Canyon.

I use my PC for gaming, rendering, and video/photoediting.

I'm really looking for the best thing for my money atm, if I can get away with the i5 i would and use my money to upgrade others parts of my PC.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If anything, an i7-3770k is your best option, but all you will be doing is cutting down rendering times. If you can live with longer render times, maybe save your money for something else.

In terms of gaming performance, you won't notice much if any improvement by upgrading. That CPU is still plenty strong and will be for another few years. If anything, maybe a stronger GPU, but a 7950 is no slouch.

If upgrading the CPU would it not be best to move to the 4th gen?

Nope, performance gain from 3rd to 4th gen is minimal. You already have a good Z series motherboard, so you could plop an i7-3770k in there, OC it and you're in business. But again, you won't get much of an improvement in games.

Ahh but i do not have a Z series board (Messed up when I first built this thing, was my first build) It is a B75, doesnt overclock past 38 multiplier.

This is why I have been considering a complete CPU swap out to 4th gen because I would need a new board anyways.

Unless I stuck with the i5 and only bought a board.

Oh whoops, my bad. I was totally reading it as Z75. My mistake. Maybe just buy a Z77 mobo so you can overclock your i5? That will improve render times and gaming performance in the games that are very CPU bound.

There is next to no tangible benefit going from 3rd to 4th gen Intel in games. You already have a strong CPU and Cooler, all you need is a Z77 mobo.

Have a look at Xeon E3's, they are as powerful as i7's but cheaper because there is no integrated graphics.

I'll check them out.

Lol oops perhaps not rendering so much, but for editing and software development, CPU is the higher priority

Seeing the thread not a weird remark to make but the premise of a CPU for rendering is in itself rather flawed. OP should do his homework a little better.

It looks good. Very good neutral color scheme. Comes with a lot of features, not too too expensive, but definitely not cheap. Its a good motherboard.  Only having to spend $130 compared to $300+ is a lot better of a deal.
