GPU Memory Bus speed

Hey guys, (this isn't austin...)

I'm deciding between a 4GB GTX 960, and the R9 280x (3GB) and I don't know if the bus speed would affect in game FPS. 

I would be running games on a 1600p monitor (16:10 equivalent of a 1440p) with an i5-4670 and 8GB ram.

The R9 280X is a bit faster (though I don't think it's just because of the memory bus), and the larger amount of VRAM might help in a couple of games at that resolution. Either card is kind of on the edge for playing new games at 2560x1600 and 60 FPS though, so there might be some visual sacrifices to be made. If you can step up to an R9 290 (preferably a third-party cooled 290), it would be worth it in my opinion.

From what I've seen recently, the 2GB card benchmarks about the same, sometimes better.

Those are synthetics, not gaming benchmarks. The R9 280X is about 5% better. Whichever you choose though, will run very well with your build.
