When i was younger, I used only AMD procs they worked for me at the time. I was on a budget back then and would round up everything i had just to buy parts. When Core 2 Duo came out, that changed the game for me. I was out and had a job and the overclocking potential was awesome. purchased a 1.8Ghz C2D and had it overclocked a full Ghz that night on the stock cooler. It is nice to have competition within the processor business to keep pricing from getting completely bonkers.
