I know it's asked many times before but I can't remember any answer.

 

Is Broadwell being released this summer, or even at all this year?

Likely in the coming months this year.

But as you probably know, it means nothing for people running the couple past gens of CPU'S.

Skylake is where the magic is at.

I've read upon several architectures already but what exactly could Skylake bring more than Broadwell besides the normal performance increase?

Skylake will bring a brand new architecture which is going to be amazing, broadwell is a die shrink of haswell, Intel took the haswell architecture and shrinked it down from 22nm to 14nm which is pretty amazing, but means nothing really, performance difference is ~3% clock for clock.

What they improved on mainly is power consumption (Your turn AMD) and better integrated graphics.

NP, yeah Skylake is a complete redesign of Intel's existing CPU architecture, the performance difernce will be either: Noticeable, big, bigger, unbelievable.

it will be like sandy, same team works on it

 

new impressive stuff, like better fpu performance confirmed, new instructions etc...

Doesn't Skylake have a AVX3? So a 512 bit instruction set.. Thats 2x the instructions per clock of haswell.

It is rumoured that only server SKUs will feature AVX3.

I would rather call it to be 2x the theoretical throughput of haswell.

The width of the SIMD unit should not increase the instruction count (IC).

Just like haswell doesn't have 2x the IPC of ivy.

Not sure bought this, CPUs aren't my strong point. I only attempt to keep up with them because it's interesting to see how far ahead GPUs are in parallel processing.

https://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2013/avx-512-instructions suggests double through put of AVX2 by packing more 64 or bit instructions in a vector. Interesting to see what the that new Xeon Phi can do though, it's looking very powerful.
