I am not sure if this is the best spot to write this but I thought it was the most suiting considering the options, I have a question in regards to copying a folder to my file server but only when a file is placed in that folder, I want the new file to also be copied to the folder, so if I have a folder of music and I add a song, the song is automatically added the folder on my file server, No clue what this is called but any helps in regards to my question are greatly appreciated.

Heya,

I would recommend using an automatic back-up program. Setting up a back-up schedule of specific folders at a time of your choosing will work great. You just set it up and leave it to do it's job everday/week/month.

I believe Windows has its own back-up utility you can use, but I don't know how sophisticated it will be (I believe it is good enough by setting up time/date and specific folders)

There are purchasable versions, also.

I use "SmartSync pro", which is a paid software.

Hope this helps,

Why don't you use the built in one?

It's called Microsoft Briefcase.

Will this only update when a new file is added ? Or will it waist time by re-uploading the whole folder ? The point of this was so that when I add a file to a folder it is also added to a folder on a network share,

I didn't want to have to use a Briefcase for my Music directory,

Thanks for you help though.

Why not?

I already have my music on another hard drive so I would have to change it to go to the briefcase then a symbolic link from a folder in the briefcase to the folder where my music is currently stored,

Just seems like a little too much to me, idk, I never have really used briefcases before anyway...

Yes, It will update the folder you choose to backup and only copy the new files over to the destination folder. It  can backup on specific times, or every hour and you can also set it up to update on folder changes. So you can set it up to update the source folder to a destination folder as soon as changes are made on the source folder. Which I believe that is what you are asking for.

If you want to give it a go, go to Smart Sync Website  ^_^
