damaged laptop

Evga
Go to solution Solved by Aetherial,

There is no possible way in which a damaged HDD can "hurt" a Computer so to speak.

Though if the read-and-write head of the HDD is busted you're not going to get much
data back unless you happen to have the correct tools to repair it. You could send it
off to a Data Recovery company of sorts but that would be expensive and possibly
futile since there is no 100% to getting everything back.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

So I dropped my laptop and damaged the Hard Drive a lot (sounds like the needle is f***ed. Could I plug this damaged Hard Drive to retrieve the documents into my desktop sata connector without it damaging my desktop ? and is it possible a sector could be lost>? thanks for help in advance

It won't damage your desktop but if the readhead is the broken part you won't get much out of it and even scratch the platters inside the drive. If the data is really important you could mail it to a data recovery company but that's not a cheap option.

so i can just plug this into my desktop without it having an affect- it sounds pretty damaged- I don't want it shorting out my psu or anything because now my laptop is broken- i have no backup pc in case my desktop fails :/

You can't ruin a computer by plugging in a physically damaged HDD.

"Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"
