I just purchased a i7 4790k! Woohoo! I ordered the mobo already so they both should be coming fairly soon. :P

Now I have about 150 left over which means I can purchase about a R9 290 should I go for that or a NVIDIA card such as a 770?

780, 970,980, 290x onwards are too expensive here in the UK (even on ebay!) so Which card would you recommend around the $225 spot (150 pounds)

I play games such as Arma 3, Minecraft, Battlefield 4, H1Z1, will be playing GTA V and also do rendering and video-editing on the side.

Will the R9 290 play good with the Intel series? I haven't seen much people with AMD cards with a i7 4th Gen Processor.

it'll be fine lol. why would there be a problem mixing amd with an intel processor?

I have one btw. i7-4790 with r9 280 works flawlessly

R9 290 is a good choice, works fine on intel cpus, but if you find a deal for a 970 I would take it!

LoL Intel + Radeon is an awesome combo.

I have the i5-4690k + 290x Lightning.

I'd say shoot for a R9-280, 280x, or if you want a newer architecture, the R9-285. Even a R9-290 is sweet if you can snag one at the right price.

I picked up a Sapphire HD7970 last night for $150 on Newegg. The HD7970 is basically a 280x. So maybe you can find a good deal on a HD7970 over the pond.

CPU: Intel i5-4690k                                                               RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengance Pro DDR3-2400                                                                     Case: NZXT S340

Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo                                                  Storage: Intel 730 SSD                                                                                                            PSU: EVGA 850G2

Mobo: Asus Z97-A 3.1                                                          GPU: 980ti G1                                                                                                                          OS: Windows 10 Pro

R9 290 will be a very good choice for you, theres no interfering between intel and amd cards, just because they are competitors in the CPU Market (maybe you cant call them competitors anymore, lol). I run a Xeon with a 280x and it performs like a charm <3
