ok, its just that I've seen people get more fps with that gpu in tomb raider then I can get.

Are you talking about test benches? They usually have an insane CPU/Mobo on them, even so no same setup is the same. So if you have a different setup but the same GPU, you can't expect the same result. It's just the way computers are. Obviously if you're getting massive drops that is an issue. Check drivers?  :P

I'm just wondering if it's worth upgrading to a AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz. To do that I'd have to change my motherboard.

There isn't any bottlenecking. Benchmarkers typically use crazy mobo/cpu combos and also have everything overclocked (including gpu) that's why you see results with higher frames.

Personally I wouldn't because I'm tight with my wallet.. but it's up to you I doubt you'd see much of an improvement either because:

- Single core performance is a very small increase (Multi-core is another story because it may improve even more over the next year)

- You're going to have to buy an expensive motherboard as well.

here's a comparison of the two: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-Black-970-vs-AMD-FX-8350

Also why have you got only 12GB of memory??

From that it seems there isn't much of a point, thanks for the info. My motherboard can handle 16GB, i will get 4 more at some point.

Hello, I have a Geforce GTX 670 running on a Asus Crosshair iv Formula with a Phenom II x4 970 3.50 GHz cpu(and 12 GB of ddr3)

Is my cpu bottlenecking my machine?

Yes you do have a bottleneck. I had a similar machine 975 OC'd to 3.9 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, and 7970 and was always 10-25 fps lower than my friends 2600k and 680 (remember the 680 is slower than the 7970).  The Phenom is a great budget processor but has a hell of a time in todays gaming enviroments. Really like everone has said the benches used for reviews are crazy insane but if you have the money I would recommend going with a baller setup. Because if you do an upgarde and aren't quite happy with the results you are just going to be throwing money away. I did this with my last 2 builds and regret my decisions. I probably wasted 400-500 dollars which I could have the ssd raid I want now instead.
