Hey everyone!

So, using my iPhone 5s for twitch or YouTube isn't exactly the best.

My budget is around 200-300$

I want to get a tablet that I can do fast web browsing, watch twitch, etc. I wouldn't be doing any gaming on it, except for a few mobile games I'm sure.

As for size, I'd rather it not be huge like an iPad. That's too big. And its screen must be pretty! (;

I've seen a lot of people recommend the Nexus 9.

Do you guys recommend anything else? Maybe something windows based? (Although then it would probably be a hybrid laptop/tablet. Yuck.)

Help me out! I've never done anything with tablets. And I don't want an iPad, if that's possible. :P

The samsung galaxy tab 4's are really nice, you can get a 10.1 inch version for about 300 dollars.

I have a lot of experience with the iPad 2 and the Motorola Xoom.  Of the two, the iPad 2 is lightyears ahead and would certainly recommend it.  It is currently what I use on a daily basis and I believe the prices are a little under 200 right now.  That said, I haven't used anything that has come out in the last year or so and am not up to snuff on the newest tabs.  I just haven't had a need to!

The Transformer Book T100 Chi may be a solid option although it's $399 which is outside of your price bracket. I would steer clear of Android based devices as web browsing is going to be miserable in comparison regardless of the hardware behind it (Nexus 9 is slow as a dog compared to a $99 Windows tablet). There's also so much more that can be done with a Windows based tablet since it can run Win32 software. The only thing you're going to want to watch out for is memory density. You're going to want a device that packs at least 2GB of memory. The HP Stream 8 would be my recommendation if you're looking for cheap with a nice display although sadly its lacking on memory (1GB). You could always give the WinBook TW802 (Micro Center) a try as well for only $129. As something to hold you off until Cherry Trail devices come around.

  • 2 weeks later...

Shield tablet is what I'd pick if I wasn't pretty content with my Nexus 7.

Will never understand the 4:3 aspect ratio for a media consumption device so I'll never get an iPad (even though I think tablets are still an area where Apple are dominating Android), the Nexus 9 or Jolla.

The Nvidia shield is a good tab but it's overkill just for general use. Then again, if the Nexus 9 interests you then you might as well go with the shield tablet. It's basically the same thing with a smaller screen (an I assume a smaller overall size) as well as Micro SD support.

iPad Mini, Your already in the Apple eco-system. No point in say a nexus 9 and buying different games for both
