So my friend wants to buy a budget gaming computer, so offered to help him out, naturally i told him that he should go for a AMD cpu.
But this is where i am stumped, i have always been a intel guy so i have no idea how amd`s chipsets work.
The new am3+ say that it is best used with a 9-series chipset,

but we live in chile so our options are limited by availability and price :s

So my main question is what would happen if i where to use lets say a fx-6100 with a 760chipset mobo?
or a non 9-series chipset.

Any help is greatly appreciated c:

(sorry for the long post :c )

As long as it is an AM3+ socket motherboard and the BIOS supports the CPU, then you should be fine. I have a 760 chipset motherboard (M5A78L-M LX PLUS) and it worked right out of the box with my AMD FX-4100. It overclocks fine too, just not as good as updated motherboards mainly because its VRM is inferior, not mainly because of the chipset.

So in your opinions is it worth getting an older chipset mobo if it saves you around 25-35 bucks or do you think its worth the extra for any reason? like 4 ram slots instead of 2

Thanks again <3

I think it's worth the extra, if you can easily afford it. If not, you can't necessarily go wrong with an older chipset if you are on a tight budget.
