I just recently got into personal pc builds after concluding that it's finally time to put my 5 year old Dell Studio xps to rest.
Since this is my first build I'm still not all too familiar with which components will compliment eachother.
I am working with a $2k budget and would highly appreciate any feedback/recomendations.

(appologies for originally posting an incomplete build)

Seems ok, but I would probably recommend cutting back on a few things and taking the saved money and getting a SSD. You could save a little by changing to a different mobo, different cpu cooler, and maybe a different psu as well. What you got picked are nice and all but seem kinda on the high side and more then what you might take full advantage of.

you can save a lot of money on all them expensive fans and go for twin packs or 4 packs of corsair or cougar fans (silent editions) that also have leds.

do you need or just want a ROG m/board? however the price is good.

remember there is taxes and shipping all adds up.

looks good

finally M.2 is the best SSD for direct mount onto your m/board and faster. saves cables, saves space, good for your O/S

if you have the room and budget you could also get an pci-e type SSD and have no cables and then just use an external large HDD for backup / storage.

just a thought if your building new.

got to love Asus components

OH I completely forgot to add the SSD to my build.

Fortunately my budget isn't super strict but I would like to stay as close to 2k as possible. What psu would you reccomend? I picked out that one for the specs and color to go with my case. Also I had a bit of a hard time finding highly recomended 360mm cpu coolers.

I would suggest a motherboard that has WiFi. Less expensive memory. An ssd is a must. A better and much less expensive psu. The fans are not needed as the case includes five.

I actually considered that mobo whilest doing my research and I found that too many people (or enough to make me feel uneasy about buying it) had issues with the Wifi adapter. I ended up giving up hope on finding a mobo w/ Wifi and opted for the ROG mobo. Plus I didn't want to make my choice based off whether the board came with wifi or not.

I liked the psu you recomended, but I'll probably switch to the black case so it matches if I go that route.

And as far as the fans go my thought process for those were to replace the 3 stock fans that came with the CPU cooler and swap them with the 3 120mm noctuas and replace the stock 140mm fan and mount the 2 140mm noctuas on the back panel and side panel behind the CPU.

I know the fan are on the pricey side, but I was trying to go for the semi silent, between ok and high end gaming build. I plan on replacing the stock fans with the CPU cooler and the Stock 140 mm fan that comes with the case.

I really really want an ROG mobo if that puts it into perspective. I know I'm a bit over on price but I think once this pc comes in I'm going to scrap the old one and hopefull save some money on the end price of the new one.

I could not find many reports of issues with the on board WiFi of the Z97-Pro(Wi-Fi ac). Certainly there was no consistency in the very few reports I could find (single digit count). Which tends to suggest that the problems are not with the design but may be related to manufacturing of those very few boards. An RMA typically solves such problems.

Spending as much on the fans as on the case is just silly and ultimately a waste. Especially since the Noctua fans are designed for "moderate" noise levels. The NF-A14 PPC-3000 are rated at over 41dB! The NF-A12 PPC-2000 fans are much better at almost 28dB, but still significantly louder than the NF-F12 PWM (22.4dB).

The Thermaltake cpu cooler is reasonably quiet. But if you really want a quiet build, go with something like a NH-U12S, NH-U14S, NH-D15 or NH-D14 cpu cooler.

Given Anandtech's review of the case, you would likely achieve better noise control using motherboard fan headers or a fan controller with the stock fans.
