So, I'm new to this whole server thing. I tried to access my computers files from another PC by going to network and selecting it, but it needed my password. However, at my school, the server shows up where a USB would, and it isn't password protected. What is going on?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

What you're referring to is probably a samba server. At school, when you log in, a script will map a samba share using your login credentials so that it appears in My Computer.

You can do this at home by going to \\ipaddressofsharingcomputer then right clicking a shared folder then selecting "Map network drive"
