1080p or 900p?

dialgarocksful

I'm stuck with getting an upgrade between these two. Any recommendations for my rig? Here are possible future-proofing for the choices:

1. Going with 1080p upgrade + getting R7 260X

2. Going with 900p upgrade + getting R9 270X

I'm a type of guy that Medium to High are good enough for me. Ultra would be much more of a "bonus" thing.

1080p + 270x if you can swing it honestly... it shouldn't be that much more. 1080p monitors are dirt cheap at this point. I'm not sure about the Philippines.

But option 1 if the above isn't possible.

The projects never end in my line of work.

1080p

I have a 260x, with lowering some details, yet keeping Texture quality at high-ultra, you'll play MANY titles at 1080p just fine, and it will still look beautiful.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

270X costs nearly $230 here. That's why I can't combine 1080p monitor with 270X. I'm currently using a mere $25 1024x768 monitor.

Many games at medium-higher details are above 35fps, and some are even around 60fps with low details selected and high quality textures enabled.

Hmm.. I'm interested on seeing how BF3 or BF4 on a 260X. How does it perform at Medium, High, or Ultra?

BF3 not sure,..see below - expect BF3 to be the same or better IMO.

But I can play BF4 easily with 55fps+ with High Textures/Mesh and low details elsewhere with my i5.

More FPS on indoor maps, 50fps'ish on outdoor maps, some dips in explosions can happen below 50fps, but quickly rises back to normal after it's cleared.

Plays Hardline the same,.. Alien Isolation isn't intensive, and could probably be maxed out, many games you do trial and error testing, Texture quality is the most important, as it's not even that intensive of an option, and having low textures is SUPER noticeable for me, yet High-Ultra looks great.

BF3/BF4/Hardline of course you do not use Antialiasing (Called deferredAA, is GPU intensive) with 2xMSAA/4xMSAA options, using POST AA on low (low performance hit) is best for the 260x.

Many games run quite well, without the super heavyweight detail options, low-medium without AA and it won't drop below 30fps in generally all cases.

To be honest, you can also find HD7950's (The R9-280) for $100 or so on Ebay, then Max out your details in games with relative ease and good performance.

But there are small risks with that, but I usually deal with the fact they could have been used for mining when spending $100 on a 7950 as oppsed to spending $140+ on a half as fast card.

Hands down the 1080p  one for me.
Can't be that much more for a 270?

Risks on eBay R9s: They might be used as a miner card. Either they are DOA or close to that.

Same as all AMD cards on ebay to be honest.

Some specifically say they were not used for mining, and while you cannot always believe such things typed, It's better than sellers not stating that at all.

When it's $100 for a R9-280 equivalent, or $150 for half as fast, I'd try the $100 HD7950 first, but I can't speak for everyone.
