Perhaps the RAM? If your not going for aesthetics any cheap kit will do.

That build looks fine to me, but personally I would replace that r9 280 with maybe a GTX 960 or GTX 970 if your price can go that far.

Also maybe go for a 550W - 600W PSU maybe, better to go overboard than not enough.

EDIT: You may want to go for an aftermarket cooler, I would reccomend either the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO or the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

My PC Specs

CPU ¦ Intel Core i5 4690k @4.3GHz, Motherboard ¦ ASUS MAXIMUS RANGER VII, RAM ¦ 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Value DDR3, Case ¦ Corsair SPEC-02, PSU ¦ Corsair CX600, Storage ¦ Samsung 850 EVO SSD 250GB, Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM, Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM, Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 7200RPM, Mouse ¦ Corsair Sabre RGB Optical Gaming Mouse, Keyboard ¦ Cooler Master Quick Fire TK Cherry MX Blue, Headset ¦ Astro A40 2014 with Mixamp Pro, Microphone ¦ Blue Snowball iCE.

Should I get thermal compound with the cooler?

Why should I go Nvidia instead?

Why should I go Nvidia instead?

They're suggesting a faster graphics card which costs more money. Having used nVIDIA and ATI/AMD products, there's not much difference in them as far as user experience is concerned. An AMD alternative to a GTX 960 is the R9 285, I believe.

Rule with your heart,

And live with your conscience.

Should I get thermal compound with the cooler?

Well both of the coolers come with thermal paste, I use the thermal paste that came with my 212 EVO and it is perfectly fine for my use.

Why should I go Nvidia instead?

Well you don't need to it's just my personal preference, I have witnessed a lot more stability with NVIDIA cards over AMD/ATI.

I would recommend holding off on the cooler and if your computer runs too hot, then you could always by one later. If you don't need one, why should you buy one right?

My Current PC: PCPartPicker I built this August of 2019. I'm loving AMD's 3rd gen Ryzen.
