I am new to pc hardware so I would like to know if these ( http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7nqVyc ) components are fully compatible and if there are some improvements i could make without changing the cost very much.

Some of the components are generic such as the main drive, the monitor, the gpu and the optical drive.

So I would also like to know which 1tb drive i should buy and what gtx 970 i should buy(ASUS,MSI, or Gigabyte)

@maxdepalma

Memory will actually hurt you in this case. You have picked DDR3-2400 mhz Ram at CL11.

The CL11 makes it so that this ram is comparable to about 1600 mhz at CL9.

Pretty good choices all around to be honest, I'd probably save a bit on the board and get something like the Z97X-SLI from Gigabyte or the Z97-Gaming 5 from MSI as I assume you're going after red/black based on your other choices here.

In regards to cooling it's a bit necessary, these haswell refresh CPUs don't need much more than the basic Hyper 212 but if you like the aesthetic of water cooling then I guess the extra $80 may be worth it to you.

$140 for a kit of RAM is a bit on the prices side, while Haswells memory controller will run it fine you could save some cash. These match your colour scheme.

Unless you have blurays I'd scrap the drive and put the $55 saved into a better monitor. You can get a nice IPS monitor if you value a nice looking monitor, or you can go for a more "gaming" grade monitor like this one which is 144Hz to get the most from your 970.

-Grab some Corsair Vengeance pro memory.

-Get the H110i GT, newer version of the H110.

-You can really save some $$$ on the motherboard if you aren't going to use all the features of the Maximus board. Look into Gigabyte or MSI.

-Try going for an 80+ Gold PSU, it's worth it. I recommend Seasonic.

-1TB HDD WD Blacks are usually recommended

-Which GTX 970 you should buy? eh, could be any of them. EVGA, MSI, ASUS, etc... .

CPU  5820k - 4.0GHz @ 1.27V  |  MOBO X99-Pro  |  RAM 16GB Ballistic @ 2133MHz  |  PSU HX750i

 COOLING  Kraken X61 - 6x NF-A14 iPPC  |  DRIVES  256GB 950 Pro - 2x 1TB Travelstar - 1x 1TB WD Black

GPU  EVGA GTX980 SC |  CASE  R5  |  OS  Win 8.1 Pro  |  MISC   Cablemod C-Series White Set
