Hello guys, I have built my new custom PC on Dec last year, and everything went fine for 2 months. All of a sudden, I'm having random reboots. The most recent one happened just few minutes ago, while I was downloading Pillars of Eternity and nothing else. I went to the Event Viewer and got this:

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

This is a very frustrating problem, and I'm no expert on computer stuff so it doesn't help. What could be the possible cause? PSU? MOBO?

If it helps, this is how the reboot went everytime: Screen and Computer shut off,and then auto reboots back on. No hard hangs, no sounds, no fan problems or anything. This problem seems to happen about the same time I got my K70 keyboard. Could that be the cause to the problem too?

is happy.

I need a bit more information to know what the issue is here, mind filling out the following details?

1) What OS are you running?
2) What are your computer specs?
3) Are you overclocking these specs?
4) If you know your average build temperature, what is it?

Just some standard analysis questions, since a couple things could be causing this issue.
Bad application of thermal paste, or a failure in the cooling unit, can cause such issues.
Then again, so can Overclocking if it's taxxing the system too hard.

Those are the two most common causes of issues like this with a Kernel problem for Custom builds.

If I don't reply right away, ping my account! I'll get back to you as soon as possible. ^_^

"Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"

Apologies for late reply.

1) Windows 8.1

2) i5-4690k, GTX 760, Kingston 8 GB DDR3 RAM, Asus B85-PRO GAMER mobo, Coolermaster 550W PSU, 128GB Samsung SSD, 1TB WD HDD all on a Corsair Carbide SPEC-02 case.

3) No

4) Under light gaming it's about 45-50 degrees celcius.

I doubt it's overheating though..

is happy.

Sorry for my own late reply, I had business I had to attend to yesterday.

Purely because I am unsure of Windows 8.1 Mechanics (as in, I know the OS but do not trust myself

to make sharp judgements regarding system operation since it is not my own personal computer) I

would direct you to this answer thread which faced similar issues in Windows 8. If you find a fix there

feel free to come back and post which one worked, if not we'll continue trying to find the root of your

problem!

Hope you find a fix!

Event ID 41 is one of those useless debugging code. You won't find anything relevant to fixing it by googling it. It means the machine didn't shut down properly. You can get it on a machine with no issues just by holding down the power button. Try @awesomes8wc3 post.
