Hi, I recently purchased my 290x reference edition, and I've been running into some wierd problems.

First of all, my fan curve is adjusted, capped at 90%.

Max temp is 95 degrees, max fan speed in catalyst is 100%.

No overclock.

So whenever I play Dying Light, or Shadow of Mordor, my 290x seems to be capping itself at around 60 degrees, and the fan speed stays at 60%, even though I let it go higher. The GPU usage goes up and down, so does the core clock.

Please help me to fix this problem. The GPU seems to just be stuck underclocked.

Thanks.

If you are using amd overdrive, reset everything and disable it. Use MSI afterburner to check if it works fine with everything disabled.

What else is in your build? You may be bottlenecked by your cpu.

By the way, please follow your topics ;)

Yes.

Then i'm 100% sure the card is thermal throttling itself. Basically it's lowering it's core and memory speeds to reduce heat output. This normally happens when its above 90 degrees.

At 100 degrees your pc will shut itself down to prevent damage.

What i recommend you to do is to install a better cooler on it.

The cheapest option would be the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme IV (priced @ 60 euro's)

You could also watercool it if you have a little bit more money. You just need the bracket, i'll recommend the NZXT Kraken G10

In combination you'll need one of these too:

NZXT : Kraken X61, Kraken X41, Kraken X31, Kraken X60, Kraken X40

Corsair : H105, H110, H90, H75, H55

Price and performance are all different, but they should all improve your temperatures. Kraken X31 and H55 are the cheapest options

Yes, it improved. But there is still a little bit of mountains in the core clock/gpu usage when running furmark aa x8.

A little hopping around is normal, if it reaches 90+% load it's fine.
