so i was wondering what voltage are you running on the 4790k because i saw TTL vid where he had it at 4Ghz at 1volt and im at 4.4 at 1.219 volts do you think i show lower this if show what too? also if you have yours overclocked plz tell me what core clock and volts thanks

Heh, stock voltage is 1.22 on another 4790k.

you could probably get away with less on stock, just use AIDA64 to validate. These chips get HOT with voltage, never exceed 1.31vcore in my personal opinion even if you have good temps. You could probably get 4.6 with your current voltage but the fact your cpu auto selected 1.22 suggests it isn't a very good roll on the silicone lottery dice.

well i used the asus auto overclock 5 way thing and 4.4 on all cores was the preset so i set that but i have also tried 4.6 and 4.8 but the voltage was way up in the 1.3 volts so i was like NOT TO DAY !!

Mines at 4.4GHz at 1.225v, runs a little hotter than I'd like under OCCT though. That voltage is fine for that clock speed so long as your temperatures are in check

yea wils folding this the temps i get which seem good i think right?

This applies to my 4690k, and I'd have to assume the 4790k as well, you'll reach a threshold on clock speed and voltage where it's just not worth it for a daily driver to increase the voltage for a minimal clock increase. For example, my 4690k requires 1.280 volts to pass a max burn @ 4.5ghz. Where as it passes all tests @ 4.4ghz at 1.190 volts. Might as well go 4.4ghz. Now, granted, I'm on a Hyper 212 Evo and could do with some submersion.

This may, or may not, be relevant. But my 4690k is @ 4.4ghz with a 1.190 vcore.

That's because a 4690k doesn't have Hyper-Threading, the 4690k I will whole-heartedly recommend to anyone looking for a gaming performance chip but the 4790k I always warn people about the f**king crazy temperatures and piss-poor TIM under the IHS touching the die (despite Intel promising to fix this, or, you know, use solder on a $400+ chip). I've yet to see a 4690k that hasn't tapped 4.4GHz with over 1.21vcore with rock-solid stability and on the flip side I've yet to see a 4790k that didn't need a 240mm AIO at least to get acceptable temps AT STOCK.

I agree, I've played with the 4790k in customer builds a bit and I've opted for the 4690k instead. Like you said, I'm 100% stable and cool, less than or around 75c on all cores under 100% load during a max burn/stress test, on air at 4.4ghz/1.190v. And no more than 50c during gaming, in CPU-bound MMO's mind you.

The 4690k is truly one of those chips that will be remembered for a very long time, a very special chip indeed. There will be drunken songs sung about it in the taverns of Tamriel ages from now.

Under a maximum burn/stress test? Give "IntelBurnTest" a go at Maximum. And run "RealTemp" along side of it. This combination of stand alone executables is a very good way to dial in an overclock, if that is what you're trying to do.

I'm also not sure if I'd consider 4.4ghz for the 4790k an "overclock" seeing as it runs at this speed stock when Turbo. So you're running it at a frequency it was designed for. Give it a go at 4.7ghz. See if you can post, boot, and pass that burn test. I'd suspect you can, and the temps should be acceptable. Under the conditions provided by IntelBurnTest @ Maximum, try to get an OC that not only passes but also stays under 85c on all cores/threads.

I don't run a 4790K anymore, but back at NCIX our bench systems regularly were running at 1.3V
