Rooting and installing CM 10.1 Question

Go to solution Solved by Lyons,

Thank you so much! I think i'll go with the PA ROM. Is it more stable than CM?

And it uses the same installing procedure right? Flash the rom > Flash GApps > Flash NCF Fix > Data wipe etc. All done? :)

Thanks again

PA is just as stable, it uses a CM based kernel. I suggest finding PA 3.55 and install that instead of 3.60, just Google paranoid android 3.55 i9300. 3.60 crashes a lot for me and the ear speaker for calling stopped working. I flashed back to 3.55 and it's rock stable with great battery life. Also install Greenify and hibernate as many programs as you can (but not you launcher, SMS client, keyboard, essential programs etc.). Flash the NFC fix after PA and GApps. Make sure you follow the install procedure on the PA XDA page :)

Hello Everybody.

I just recieved my S3 I9300 in the mail a couple of days ago.

Now i wanted to root the device and flash CM 10.1 onto in.

The device is currently running Android 4.1.2. Now my question was: Can i just root the device using odin and flash CM 10.1 on it. Or do i need to do something else?

Thanks :)

you dont need root to flash custom firmware to your device

you could just flash CWM via odin then install custom rom or install custom rom via odin check the thread of cm 10.1 for more info but probably its an odin pack

This guide should cover everything you need to know. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9300 Something to keep in mind is that unlike the other versions of the S3, the i9300 doesn't have a stable release of CM 10.1 nor will probably ever will.

Root -> Flash CWM (or any custom recovery you want) -> Wipe Data -> Flash Rom -> Flash Gapps. -> Wipe Partition Cache & Dalvik -> Reboot.

If anyone still reads this; Does it matter if i root my S3 on 4.1.2 and then install CM 10.1 (Which is 4.2.2 i believe).. does that matter of should that work just fine? ..

Doesn't matter. Make sure you flash the .zip I attached to fix NFC (CM breaks it). Also I strongly suggest you try Paranoid Android.

The order for installing CM from the stock ROM is:

- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM10.1 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM10.1 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- Flash NFC fix
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot

Make sure you read EVERYTHING here:

NFCFix.zip
