i5-4440s?

My friend is thinking about getting a new CPU. He wants to upgrade his components. He has an i5-4440s. He is planning on getting an SSD and a GTX 970. He is now thinking his i5 can't handle it and wants an i7. But I disagree. I think his i5 would probably be fine even though it isn't a 4690k. What do you guys think?

That i5 is perfectly fine, it won't be bottlenecking a 970 anytime soon.
