So I'm currently using a router supplied by my ISP, not sure if it's good or not tbh. I have about 50d and 15up. Online gaming I am having some ping issues, and it's very frustrating. I'm trying to figure out how to get the best gaming connection. I have tried replacing some ethernet cords with cat6 cables and stuff in the past, not sure if that's even helpful, probably not. I have recently been looking into QoS. I have heard I can direct (let say 90%) of my bandwidth to a specific IP? Or something alone those lines? I have lots of people in my home, all who have laptops, iphones, etc, which are not in use and are just hogging up bandwidth. It's not that I really don't have enough bandwidth for all these items, but by default the router doesn't know which to prioritize over the other, correct? So downloading emails every 15 minutes on iphones for example could take priority over my gaming connection. Will QoS help this? Also I have tried some settings on my router but it was pretty confusing, and the biggest thing that is making me mad is I'm not even sure how to tell if I have done it correctly....maybe I should buy an aftermarket router? Anyways just looking for some tips, thanks. Or any tips on how to maximize my ping/connection for online gaming, I'm not using wireless either.

I believe your ISP box is a gateway (router/modem combo), correct? Have you scoured all settings menus for QoS? (have to ask just in case)

Giving priority to certain applications' packets (enabling QoS) is going to improve your ping by a large margin. You just have to get yourself a router that can handle that and plug all devices in your home on it, then connect the router to the ISP box.

Well that's the thing, I read up on a guide (I can link you if you actually have an interest in reading) for QoS on my router but I'm not sure that it did anything, and I'm not sure how to test either. I was thinking of maybe buying an aftermarket router, one that markets more towards QoS and might be easier or have more options for QoS in the settings. I consider myself pretty tech savy but I don't know all the router terms. I just followed this guide but not sure if it made a different tbh.
