Hey all,

I'm fairly new with IT and am in charge of a the IT for a small group. Someone in the group built a home file server awhile back (just a basic old pc with windows server 2008 loaded on it). I wanted to update the case to fit more hard drives so i thought i would build the server just like any other pc by taking it apart one piece at a time and putting it back into the new case. In my custom built PC i never had to deal with a RAID configuration. In the server it seems that there are 3x1TB hard drives in RAID 5. When i got the server all put back together, the system booted up(the os is on a separate hard drive) but the raid could no longer be detected. I am wondering what i need to do to get this raid to show up. Do the hard drives need to be on the same sata ports as it was? I have moved the sata ports around without much luck. Did one of the hard drives fail? how do i tell that and if so how do i find out which of the three failed? Any help would be awesome. Also, there was not a whole lot of important data on the drives, so this is more of a learning experience more than anything.

Thanks,

Ross
