X99 Workstation

Go to solution Solved by EcoBoost,

Looks good to me, the Antec H20 620 will be able to handle the 5820K perfectly fine if you're running at stock

Hi Guys!

I am planning to Upgrade my current Setup. Which is an AMD Phenom II x4 B50 (originally a X2 550), 8GB Ram and a GTX560 1GB.
As I am on a budget, i´ll try to recycle as many parts as possible.

My Primary Workload will be Avid, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Premiere and a little bit of Blender. Maybe Nuke later down the road.
Here is my partslist:

  • Intel i7-5820k (~400€)
  • AsRock X99 WS (~290€)
  • Crucial DDR4-2400 2x8GB (~190€)

For CPU-Cooling i am not sure if my Antec H2O 620 can handle 140W TDP (CPU-Z says that the B50 has actually 158,4W and CPUID HWMonitor Scores with 178,2W. I don´t think that´s right cause a Phenon II X4 965 has just 125W). I cann´t read out the temps. Its broken cause of the unlocked Cores. I think it will be one of my selection:

  • be quiet! Dark Rock 3 (~60€)
  • Noctua NH-D14 (~75€)
  • Enermax Liqtech 240 (~100€)

The case will be the Fractal Core 3500 (without the window) or the Nanoxia Deep Silence 2 (both ~70€).

My graphics card will be my old GTX560, till i can afford the upgrade to a GTX970 or GTX980 (I have to stick to Nvidia cause of CUDA).
As power supply i take my Corsair CS550M.

As storage i go with my Mushkin Chronos 256GB Samsung 830 Basic 128GB for OS, Apps and Games.
2x4TB in RAID1 as project storage (e.g. Seagate Desktop ~170€) and my old WD Black 500GB as Cache-Drive.

At Total its gonna cost me ~1300€ + the CPU-cooler if needed.
Do you have any suggestions to optimize my build?
