Hey there,

This is probably one of the more ridiculous posts you will come across, but I would like to know if there is a way for me to turn my £1000 macbook pro retina into a microphone.

Yes.

I regularly use it as a Skype 'box when i'm playing games and such with friends, but i don't currently have a (half-bad) mic to use if i want to speak in game (eg CSGO).

So is there any semi-logical half-possible way of doing so? So mic output would come to my PC?

Along with this, is there any way that i would be able to skype at the same time?

Grr

Off the top of my head Skype/teamspeak with yourself (from your mac to your pc) and pick up the audio from that into CS:GO but since I've never tried anything like this and I'm not even sure if you can isolate the audio from a program and use it as an input in another. I'm sure the latency would be pretty bad too. You might be able to route it over your network...but I doubt that functionality is built in and I doubt a program exists for it...you'd have to have someone figure out how to do it through the terminal.

Would certainly be easier to just buy a mic...maybe look for one on craigslist or something. How much could you spend on one?

Yes, buying a microphone would be far easier and probably give you better quality but hey maybe you'll learn something.

I'm thinking of somehow setting up the mac to "live stream" locally which can then be picked up by your computer using something like VLC. then you can use VB-Audio's Virtual audio cable to get the audio into Skype: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/

Once you have the live stream going to VLC you can set VLC to use the Virtual cable input as the sound card and then set Skype to use the virtual cable output as a mic.

Unfortunately I haven't found a simple answer to setting up some local live stream software on OSX. :(
