laptop WiFi issues

My laptop seems to be able to detect wireless networks even when my tablet (which is next to the computer) and when it does detect networks, it changes the security from wap2 to wep, which means changing it back, losing all detected networks then going through the same loop again.I've tried reinstalling the drivers, resetting wireless zero config and manually entering the network details with no luck. What should I do next? As I don't know what to do. (The OS is Win XP Pro SP3, and the WiFi card is just titled 'ASUS 802.11g Network Adapter, and the laptop is an ASUS A3H)

Perhaps the wireless adapter itself is a load of shit, the one that came in my asus k53ta bbr6 was shit and ended up having some problems after having the laptop for around a year and a half, though a replacement was only like $9. (Don't remember what the replacement I got was, I think it was an intel 5100 or something like that)

That is possible since its 9 years old, but it detecting 2 networks ATM, and not the one I want, which this tablet is getting a full strength signal. Normally this wouldn't be a problem as I have a spare WiFi card, but I'm at college and I need Internet access on my laptop for One Drive.
