Which one should I buy?

So basically is it better to have 16 gb of ram and a 5th gen processor, or 8 gb of ram and an optical drive?

It really depends whether you need that optical drive or not. If you're using steam, and not using a lot of CD drives, go for the first laptop. After all, you can always get a USB optical drive later on.
