So my buddy overclocked his 3570k to 4.6 ghz and shortly after his 670 died, he sent a RMA and got a new one. Now he's running his cpu back at stock speeds (3.4 i think) and thinks that the overclock killed his 670, but I think thats proposterous and that he just got unlucky. I've NEVER heard of a cpu overclock killing a separate component, but if I'm wrong someone correct me. All in all is my friend birdbrained or is it a legitimate claim?

I'm pretty sure it can't kill your gpu. It just doesn't make sense to me but like you i'm not 100% sure

No, a CPU overclock can only damage the CPU & possibly the socket.

His 670 might have died because of the 320.18 driver which killed cards.

This is most likely the cause of the card breaking

Yeah I downloaded that driver the day it came out. But it almost seems like he doesn't want to resolve the issue and says he doesnt want to update (who knows why). I've told him in all likelihood it wasnt the cpu overlock.
