I am currently building my new computer inside an H440. I didn't upgrade some parts that I had extra, including a TX 860M PSU. I plan to upgrade in the future, but this is what I have for now.

My question, is there any difference in power performance between the non-modular cables that I can't remove, and the modular cables that are optional? I ask this because the non-modular ones are significantly less aesthetic than the modular ones. Would I see any performance issue using the 8 pin CPU power from the modular side compared to the non-modular side, as well as 2x 8pins for my GTX 980?

And yes, I have room to hide the bulk of the cables in extra HDD bays.

Thoughts? Thanks guys.

The power that gets delivered through the wires is exactly the same, so it doesn't matter performance-wise if you use the fixed or modular cables.

Well, any point of contacts that is not "perfect" does add resistance and will in turn cause a larger voltage drop. Just like how plugging a 24-pin connector, EPS12v connector, etc. to your motherboard isn't a "perfect" connection, the modular connectors isn't either.

Now as long as you ensure that all connection have been plugged all the way end and is secure, this will be very minimal and you should not have anything to worry about. Sadly, even with non-modular PSU, there are some people out there who sometime has a loose connection somewhere, in which sometimes causing stability issues or even the connector itself to burn.

In short, you should have nothing to worry about, as long as you make sure the cable at the PSU side and component side is securely plugged in.

There's no difference between them.

Thanks guys! Finished the build with the modular cables and it looks amazing, thanks for the help!
