Hello LTT,

Im currently looking forward to upgrade my gpu and I am not sure if it will work out quite well or not.

I currently have AMD FX 8350, 8 GB Ripjaws RAM, MSI 760GM-P23(FX), NVIDIA 550TI and a Seasonic 500W PSU

What I want is to be able to play most AAA titles at max graphics at 1080p 60fps for the next couple of years. In the mean time, I may get a 4k display so I have a feeling that it may drop in performance for 4k, but if its atleast playable at 30 to 40 fps, Im fine with that.

So Im planning to upgrade the old generation GPU to something new, and currently my eyes are set on the GTX 980.

But will my CPU bottleneck the GPU performance??

Is the PSU even remotely powerful enough to power this GPU?

Or do you guys suggest a full PC upgrade to current gen hardware??

EDIT: Im getting a good discount for ASUS GTX 980 Strix, about 31% from an online store, so should I get it?

Help is appreciated.

Regards

I suggest you upgrade to an unlocked i5 (or i7)

Buy a 980 and SLI it later if you go 4K

Buy a new PSU (I recommend the EVGA G2 850W)

For now i would buy a 980, upgrade CPU and mobo later on

Go for a 970 and switch to an i5 when possible then SLI it after.

Dual 970s are better than a 980 anyway.

If you're thinking about the future that much you should switch that 8350 to an i5 or i7 then go from there.

I think there is a problem now, I was just checking pcpartpicker, and it seems there may be some GPU size compatibility issues with my current case(NZXT 210 Elite Black). Possibly may need to upgrade the case as well. As far as PSU goes, it doesn't show any problems with one currently I have.

I was looking for a CPU upgrade as well to a 4770k or a 4790k, I do some video rendering as well, so I may opt for these.

You don't need to upgrade your case.

You might have to remove hard drive cages at the max.
