Hi!!

My name is Anthony and I am looking for someone to interview for a speech I am doing for a COMM100 class at GMU.  I'm looking to get expert tips about choosing basic custom computer parts.  Here are a couple of the questions I will ask:

1) What is your name?

2) What is your experience and credibility within this realm?

3) What advice would you give to people who know very little about putting computers together regarding choosing parts to use for their builds?

4) Do you have a degree related to IT or any certifications/training that helped you understand how to put computers together?

5) What are your top 3 sources of information for putting together custom PC builds?

Also, with your permission, I would also like to post a picture of a custom PC build to show as an example in front of the class.

Please message me or comment with any questions you have!

Thank you everyone for the help!!

Keep rocking and keep building!!

  -Anthony

Welcome to the forums!

1)Tyler Smith

2) Have been building computers for about 3 years and repairing small tech for about 6 years.

3)

-Save up until you can buy everything at once. Buying spereately can be a recipe for disaster becuase of various factors.

-Go to linustechtips.com and see what people there advise for you within your budget and planned usage.

-Get the best that you can afford. In my opinion, if you're on a tight budget, pick your GPU, CPU, and mobo; then choose the rest of the parts.

-pcpartpicker is a great assistant in building computers.

4) Currently studying Computer Science at California State University San Marcos. Otherwise, no formal training - all youtube and internet-gained knowledge.

5)

a) linustechtips.com is a great resource - many people willing to help and guide a new builder through the process.

b) pcpartpicker.com is also great - it can help guide you in making sure that all of your parts will work together and will find you the best prices.

c) your wallet - dont wreck the bank just to get a great PC. Good PC's can be built for almost any price range, from about $350 up.

If wanted, you can use any of the photos from the gallery in my profile.

Welcome to the forums and best of luck!

1) Bernardus Hersa Galih Prakoso <It's a mouthfull, and the "e"s are pronounced like "echo">

2) I have built a costum PC myself, and assisted my friends in planning and building theirs as well in the past 2 years and tinkered with PCs even longer than that

3) >Don't overkill your specs. Build it for what you want to use and how long you want to use your PC for. It's better to have mid-tier cards that you replace in 2-3 years intervathan to have a top-of-the-line card that will blow your wallet up, unless you have the means to do so.

    >Performance over looks. Try to get the performance you want first, then pick the parts that match your tastes

    >Don't be hasty. If you don't need it for tomorrow, it might be worth waiting a couple of months to save a few bucks/pounds/dinars or get a better performing card if there's a new generation coming out.

4) I learned IT while I was in school, but other than that, none. Most of the things I learn about PC building is from YouTube, forums, and tinkering around. It's not like building a PC is that much harder from putting together a lego.

5) forums for info on parts, local/online shops for availability on the parts, and knowing someone in the physical realm that knows about PC or has the same interest as you will boost your probability of getting the best PC for you

I'll post my PC if you so desire. It's nothing fancy though
