Modded Minecraft-minimum latency LAN party setup

TPPI2 (Test pack please ignore 2) is in the works and some friends and I want to get together to play over lan.

The plan is I will be running a dedicated server (best pc) and on the tv in the room I will use my raspberry pi to have a live dynmap feed (hopefully) and I was wondering how I should connect all 3 pcs for minimum lag/latency. The router is nearby, so should I ethernet all our pcs to that? Or is there a better way? I don't know crap about networking. Also, my internet is pretty bad, I don't know if it affects anything over lan in any way, but its like 1.5 mbps download and .65 upload

I don't know if you will be able to acheive this just because of your internet. But to be honest I don't know much about networking either so I can only hope to help by saying to look up tutorials on youtube or just google it and follow instructions.

If everyone is going to be on the same LAN, the network will not be the bottleneck.

I suggest you throw as much RAM as you can at it. Thats really the only thing you can do.

Hmm you think 8 gigs is enough for server and client?

If its gonna be a big deal I might have time to add another 4 maybe.

How many people are going to be online at once? For a hevily modded server, you could get away with 4GB with less than 5-10 players. However more is always better.

3 Total, maybe 4. How should I split my 8gb between server and client?

I'm guessing like 3 for client and 3.5ish for server?

That sounds about right. Unless you can get a dedicated server running. A dedicated machine is always best, but what you said should work just fine for what you want.
