I finally have my plan for my first build ready to go. I have no intentions for future OC but I will do a 2-way SLI in about a year. I'm somewhat on a budget, trying to stay below 1050 **without rebates** (I don't do them because they aren't direct savings). No 4k gaming anytime soon. No need for a mass storage drive yet, no use of a disc drive anymore, and I have an OS. Pretty much wraps it up. Anywhere I can improve without going over budget  **without including rebates** (people always seem to miss that)? Thank you.

so you have a locked cpu with your unlocked motherboard

so what you should do is either get a 4460 and a h97/b85 board or get a cheaper z97 board and a 4690k

I would recommend making some sacrifices and getting a 4690k, or else downgrading to an h97 motherboard.

There is no reason to have a z series motherboard without an unlocked processor. the h97 chipset is identical save for overclocking.

If you plan to stay with a single gpu, you could downgrade to mATX or even ITX to save a bit on the case and motherboard, and you could also probably go down to a 650w or even 500w power supply. Another option is to live with 4gb of RAM, and upgrade to 8 or 16 later on.

Not sure about the quality of rosewill cases, and you could find an r4 for the same price.

Other than that, it's a solid build.

Specs: i7 4790k, r9 280 windforce OC, 8gb hyperx fury 1866 RAM, z97 PC Mate, 256gb mx100, black pearl r4, 2tb WD Red (soon)

No H97 board supports 2-way SLI. I don't have an interest to OC. In doing that I also need a CPU cooler too.

personally, I'd go for the R9 290... not trying to be a fanboy or anything, but I've heard complaints about the GTX 970.

also, i changed the mobo to H97 since you have a locked i5.

I mentioned I'm going for 2 GPUs, just not right away.... I don't like the look of R4s, too plain. No H97 supports SLI. Don't care to overclock.
