Advice requested for gaming pc

TidalWave

Hey all,

Currently I have a 5 year old gaming rig and it's starting to fall to pieces...

So time for something new and I can really use some tips & advice.

My budget is $1000 and I would like to run most games in 1080p on high/ultra settings with decent frame rate.

Within a year or so, I hope to expand, overclock (maybe even watercooling) and improve where needed.

Thanks in advance,

TidalWave

Change the PSU to EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650w 80+ gold just because it is more efficient, lower wattage which you don't need 700 watts since about 300 won't be used, and cheaper.

The EVGA NEX isn't much better than the NZXT in the spec.

Thank you all for the advise and links.

From what I can tell, most of you don't switch the CPU & Motherboard, that's a good thing.

You all suggest 8 GB instead of 16 GB, I'm assuming this is because 8 GB is currently the sweet spot and since upgrading memory is a always an options, so I'll follow that advise

The suggestions for a cheaper case are appreciated but I am going to stick with the case since it has a longer life time and more upgrade options.

The EVGA's PSU is indeed very interesting, I am going to look into this.

And as last: The GPU. Spend the remaining budget on the GPU is what I read out of your suggestion, so I'll follow that advise.

Corsair CX isn't that good.

Also the 850 Evo is cheaper and newer.

Small builds are very nice but they are very limited.

If I wanted to put an extra GPU in or change the standard cooling to custom loop water cooling, then I have quite the challenge.

I'll stick to a big case, thank you.
