Server Build Preparation Q

Go to solution Solved by bobhays,

Hi, I'm making plans to save up for a server for my future home and I don't fully understand how they work apparently. How am I able to share massive files at home with selected devices? Btw is this called a home network or something? If all of my devices are connected through ethernet do servers still use ISP? Do servers use ISP at all? In order to share these massive files do I have to have an ISP if it's just going to be at home or are ISPs just used for being able to access the information from any device anywhere?

I'm not an expert on servers by any stretch, but basically it uses your home network to share files. For this all you need is a router that your devices are connected to. It does not need and ISP to share files because you aren't even using the internet just a home network. You don't even need to use ethernet you can just connect to the router via WiFI.
