Front panel headphone connection. Silly question.

I have an ASUS Maximus VII Formula board, which has amazing onboard audio. If I plug my headphones into the front panel headphone jack, though, will they benefit from the back end audio? To me it seems like using a USB 2.0 extension cable and plugging a USB 3.0 device in it expecting the same results.

Assuming I have to use the ports from the board, there is not a dedicated headphone port. Is there a better solution rather than having to unplug my speakers and plug in the headphones?

Thanks!

No. If you want the on-board Motherboard audio of the Maximus you must plug in your headphones to the REAR ports. (directly into the mobo)

The front panel doesn't quite use the sound card on the mobo, but it also introduces noise, distortion & such.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It only makes sense...

Do you know if there is a better solution than having to unplug my speakers every time I want to use my headphones?

Ummm, if it isn't using the sound card on the mobo, then where does the front panel got their sound signal from?
