as close to $1000

Here you go:

Laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152429

SSD: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series-120GB-internal-MZ-7TD120BW/dp/B009NHAF06/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373089887&sr=8-1&keywords=840+120gb

HDD Caddy: http://www.amazon.com/SATA-caddy-12-7mm-Universal-DVD-ROM/dp/B0056EW4A4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1373089872&sr=1-1&keywords=hdd+caddy

This is what you do:

1. Replace your hdd in the laptop with the Samsung 840.

2. Replace your dvd drive with the HDD caddy with the original HDD in it.

There you go--speed and capacity.

Recording footage usually has to do with having a drive that's not already being used that much. By having both a ssd and an hdd, you can load applications and games off of the ssd while recording off of the hdd. You also get a very snappy computer as well.

does this void your warranty

Yes, opening up your laptop will void your warranty unless you get some certified tech person to do it for you.
