When my computer has been on for some time, maybe over night or so, it doesn't playback videos smoothly anymore. Below is a youtube link to demonstrate what I mean. This isn't network thing because it happens with VLC too, and rebooting fixes everything. It is very smooth after rebooting.

My computer specs:

  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
  • ASUS M5A78L (BIOS version 6.5.2011)
  • AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
  • 4x4GB Kingston RAM (1333MHz DDR3)
  • Geforce GTX 460 SOC edition
  • C-drive is 1TB (dont know more about it)
  • Corsair TX 750

I dont believe my computer should do that. I run ftp-server and I use my computer remotely, that's why I need to keep it open for long times, so I rather just fix this problem than reboot it all the time.

If any questions, ask. And thanks in advance!

I think I have the same problem (asus motherboard too), does video lag especially when you move your mouse?

Hmm, maybe it sometimes increases the effect, but i haven't payed that much attention to mouse. I believe it's more connected to using browser (this affects only videos played from browser). If I update a page or search from google the youtube video, for example, starts lagging way more. I dont think it affects videos played with VLC. But like you saw with my youtube clip, I didn't move my mouse after the video started and it lagged like he** :D But it's very frustrating to watch a movie that's in my computer because of the lagg, even if I close everything else, and don't do anything with my computer.

Is the cpu at 100% when you're watching youtube?

Hmm, i dont think so. I can't check now, because youtube works like a dream after rebooting (witch i did just an hour ago). But I have checked it some time ago, and remember that both ram and cpu weren't at 100%. Not always over 50% either. (But I can't be sure, it's been a while when I tried to find out what causes this)

Well I thought it for a second more, and now im sure that cpu weren't at 100%. That's because I went to buy more ram for thinking it was the reason. I of course would have checked the cpu usage first before buying ram. But adding ram didn't fix it, so i have no idea why it laggs after being on. Shouldn't it perform the same as it does after rebooting?

Can it have something to do with the motherboard maybe? I am in the process of upgrading my computer and i have bought motherboard and prosessor already. But I won't be changing them just yet, because I heard I need to reinstall windows at the process, which removes all my software and empties the whole C drive. So still would like to know what causes my computer doing so.

Hello guys,

We've released a temporary fix for this issue couple of days ago and the permanent solution will come in form of a windows update propably within a week.

Hey Gamerdad,

Sorry I could not reply earlier cause I had to get this accout verified, but now I can so here it is:

This issue is caused by the recent windows updates made on 28.2.2015 and/or 10.3.2015 and it affects almost all Win 8 to 8.1 machines that have ran the update.

There is no permanent solution as of now, but as a temporary fix you can do the following:

Windows + R
Search for "msconfig"
Go to "Services"
Find "Intel ® Technology Access Service"
Untick the box to disable service
Apply
Ok
Restart Pc

This might affect the performance of ethernet over usb, but in most cases it will be fine. At this moment it seems like we will get a permanent fix withing a day, but I'll keep you guys updated over the course of today. If you wish to know more about the issue just post a question and I'll try to answer it as clearly as possible.

-Employee @ a pc manufacturer

To add to this last message, the problems include: Trouble with USB-, Bluetooth- and integrated mouse/keyboard - Crackling audio, stuttering/lagging video when moving mouse cursor, fps lag in high load applications and overall loss of performance. If have been experiencing any of these problems after the 28.2.2015 or 10.3.2015 update I suggest you to try the temporary fix since these issues are mosty likely cause by these updates and the fix has worked for these issues on all of the units tested. (1000s of units)
