So im looking at putting some non-computer specific LEDs in my case by wiring them into a Molex power cable, the LEDs im looking at getting are http://www.trademe.co.nz/building-renovation/electrical-lighting/lights/other/auction-856800683.htm-basically just a strip with LEDs along it. Just wondering if there's anything wrong with what im looking at doing? Also does anyone know if it's hard to reduce the length of the strip?

nope. did it myself, with RGB led 5050

they are remote controllable, and can change color. but they are just generic LEDs, and it works just fine

Yeah I was also looking at a couple of cheapo RGB ones but it looks like they go into a converter then a wall socket, think it would be fine to cut the cable before that and use the molex instead?

Those look to be SMD3258 or SMD5050 LED's you can cut them very easily with a sharp pair or scissors and solder on a molex lead to the strip, from the photo they are only single color LED's but if you get an RGB strip it will need a controller to change between those colors.

Yeah, they go to a 12 volt converter.

which conveniently, is what molex is. It goes into a control box(3$) then its a barrel connector, like what some displays or laptops use. I picked up a 5$ molex to barrel connector off of ebay. if you want, I can find links for everything I used.

Ahhhh ok, awesome

That all sounds easy enough really, just need to get the barrel to molex connector or solder/heat shrink a female molex onto the end either way would work as far as I can tell
