Hi everyone.

Small issue that I was wondering if you could help with.

Scenario:

I am hosting a TS3 server. I have 2 subdomains and 1 domain name pointed towards it. The PC is on my network so I can connect with the private IP. My friends outside the network can connect to it using the subdomains and domain, but I cannot; I have to use the private IP.

I was able to connect using the subdomains earlier today, but when I added the domain I suddenly couldn't use any of them. It isn't really an issue since I can still connect and all of my friends can use them, but I'm just wondering if anybody knows what the issue is.

Maybe I did a bad job of explaining. I kinda jumbled it, so I'll lay it out.

  1. Set up TS3 server on a PC running 24/7 in my local network
  2. Grab a freedns domain name, point it towards the PC. It works.
  3. Friends and I can connect by typing said domain name
  4. I add another domain since a friend just bought a domain and said we could use it.
  5. They can all use both, but I can't use either. I have to use the local address.

I have set up TS3 servers like this and had them work like this several times in the past. I'm not too worried; since friends can all still connect. It is just weird.

You can't connect from inside your network > out of your network > back into your network. If you're within the LAN, you'll always have to use either /etc/hosts (or hosts file) defined domains that point to the internal IP, or the internal IP.

The reason I was confused is because I have before. I was earlier today. When I added on another it stopped letting me use them.

Logically, and in almost all scenarios, it won't work. Why it did work, I don't know, but it shouldn't have.
