I was wondering if there was any benefit to putting a fresh install of windows on my PC?  My PC is slowing down a little bit, has some issues in terms of viruses (nothing that's changing performance, just really f-ing annoying ones that cause pop-up ads and stuff), as well as games crashing more often then they should/usually do.  All my games on steam are on a second hard drive. I have a 500 GB hard drive with windows, my main files, some games, and my music.  My steam games are all on a 1 TB hard drive separate from my windows drive.  I don't know if now that I would be re-installing windows if I should get an SSD, but I want to know if there is a benefit to a fresh install of windows. Thanks everyone!

You can always try to get around a fresh install, but most times the effort you put in to it isn't worth it.  Get a SSD and do a fresh install. It will be like 10 times faster. Do you have Windows 8 or 7?

I wish I could do that, I got a OEM copy... stupid me

are you sure it doen't work? Was it installed on a different PC?

Sorry OP for going off your topic. You want to upgrade to a SSD and you will be using the same motherboard, that is running the OEM Windows now? That should work. If activation does fail, you will have to call Microsoft and give them 7 Number blocks to do a manual activation. I also got a OEM Windows 7 license. I had to do the phone activation, but it worked.

Okay.  As long as I can still use my copy of windows and I don't need to buy a new copy, I'm good.  The system, besides a possible SSD upgrade, is not changing, so it should work.
