A few months ago I installed a custom water cooling loop in my computer. It has ID 3/8 and OD 5/8 primochill tubing and a 120x240mm radiator. it worked like a charm for a while and now there is this manageable but slightly hum that is going loud then soft (sounds like a UFO in movies) over and over again. I checked that it was not other components by running it alone and it is the source. I cant find a reason though, my temperatures are still normal.

I don think that this is that urgent as it is only slightly annoying but i am afraid it might be because of a major problem I haven't noticed yet.\

Thanks,

Ben

- Sounds like it's increasing and decreasing the rpm from how you describee it, do you have it connected via motherboard or just molex/sata etc. ?

- Is the loop properly bled? Most "bad" pump sounds will come from bubbles in the loop, particles and/or gunk stuck in the pump or high restriction in your loop.

- When you tested the pump alone the bubbles could still be stuck in the impeller, if you meant in a closed loop with only the pump.

- What case is it mounted in?

I have not found any bubbles in it, it has a silver antimicrobial coil in it and I recently refilled it (this was after the noise started)

I have not tried it in a closed loop and it goes through the pump, reservoir combo then to the CPU then the RAD, no GPU.

The loop is in a corsair 650D, I had no issues putting it in.

i would suggest tilting and shaking the case lightly to make sure all air bubbles are out of it. Are you running the pump at full speed? if so i suggest maybe getting a rheostat or fan controller that can handle the wattage of the pump and lowering it t osee if the noise stops

although the ufo noise issue does sound like either there is junk in your loop or your pump

i would try the above first then flush the loop completely and try again if the noise doesnt improve
