How do I play Arena Commander

Okay so this game thoroughly confuses me, could I just buy an Arena Commander (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Module-Passes/Arena-Commander) or do I need to buy a ship + AC Pass (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Aurora-MR-AC-Starter) to actually be able to play AC?

if you want to play now as cheaply as possible, i would get the MR and upgrade to the LN

So get the first one then upgrade to what?

*technically* your getting more than one game but buy a starter pack and put each one of these in your basket

that way you can try both and switch back and forth.

 

If you want the LN (better weapons and missiles (unless they have changed the specs recently) thats here:

your going to pay more as there is now VAT added to the cost AND you missed the intial pledge when things were slightly cheaper.

If prices get cheaper, I will defo do that :)

well REC (rental credits) hopefully come out tomorrow so you might be better staying with what you have, just to point out that you may have to buy an extra pass for early access to the FPS module.

 

We will find that out in a month.

It doesn't say it in enough places so you will have to bear in mind that what you will be playing if you get the package right now is a PRE ALPHA build of a part of a part of the actual game. It is just a showcase of some of the functionalities that will be available upon release and the overwhelming majority of features that the end product will offer, such as multi-crew ships, first person combat, landing on planets and space stations, massive multiplayer interaction, trading and economics, missions and the single player campaigns, will not be available to you at this point.

 

Arena Commander is just a test bed for features so we can play around with them as they are being developed. What we currently have is walking around your hangar and checking out the ships you own (the smaller ones) inside and out and being able to fly most of the single-seater ships in small 8 player matches or versus AI. An early iteration of a first person shooter module will be comming out later this month.

 

My point is that you will not be "purchasing a game" - you will be pledging support for an unfinished project and gaining alpha tester access in return. Evary new patch is full of bugs and it is up to us to test them and point them out to the devs... while having some fun shooting at each other in the process. But if you approach this with an "I am purchasing a game" attitude, you will probably have a bad time.

 

I apologize for maybe comming off as a downer but I see many people on the official forums who end up very frustrated due to wrong expectations.

wait till the end of the week to find out if 1.1 is coming out. That way you can play with your base ship and earn in game rental credits to hire guns and other ships for a week.

 

What are you more interested in FPS or dogfighting?

They both interest me a lot tbh..

 

I have always been a massive FPS fan though..

 

But I kind of over saturated it for myself so I am more excited to explore/dogfight etc.

no problem, sorry i didn't respond sooner :) trying to find where some coil whine is coming from!

 

I would wait to see if the starter packs include the FPS and go from there :)

yeah for me it's playing an alpha of a game that one of my all time heroes built.

 

Plus I use to get into alpha way back when they paid you to test not the other way round :) so i'm use to half built buggy games
