Hello!

So after purchasing quite a few pre-built desktops, laptops and one iMac, I decided that this time around I would build my own.

Doing research online, watching pretty much all of LinusTechTips videos and with the help of my friend who works for EVGA US.

I set myself a budget of around $700, this is not including monitor or peripherals. I do plan to upgrade more in the future (Memory, GPU, and SSD/HD) when I have the funds but for now I plan for some gaming (CS:GO, Arma 2, DayZ, Wow), photo editing and minor stuff online.

I have not thought of a name for it, maybe the forum can help.

Build List

  • CPU - AMD FX-8370 4.0 GHz 8 Core Black Edition
  • Motherboard - Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+
  • Memory - Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600
  • Storage - Western Digital 1TB Blue Caviar
  • Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX960 2GB SSC
  • Power Supply - EVGA 500B 500W Power Supply
  • CPU Cooler - Corsair H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Case - Diablotek CPA-6180 (Evo III) ATX Mid Tower

For the meantime since I don't have a monitor I'll use my Samsung TV along with my wireless keyboard and mouse.

Since this is my first build I hope its okay, If you have any advice. Please let me know!

Thanks!

Edit!

Photos of finished build along with new monitor. I will take some more photos of the interior of the case

Get a FX 8350 insted, the 8370 has barely any performance advantage.

If you didn't buy it yet, please buy an i5, they are so much better at gaming.

Unless you plan to multi-task out the @$$, like I do, (and it doesn't seem that way with 8gb of ram), then an i5 is much better at gaming. (Some i5s multi task better anyway, but I had already ordered my build before research).

By multitasking out the @$$,i  litterally mean, a stream, at least 10 chrome tabs, a skype call, 2 games while a virus scan is occurring.

edit if you want to go amd check post above.

Current Desktop Build | 2200G | RX 580 4GB | 8GB RAM | CTRL | Logitech G Pro Wireless

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master

a 4690k performs very similarly to the FX 8370 and is cheaper...

I have that case... it's a pain in the @$$ to work in. Don't get it.

There's literally like no cable management space in the back for the wires and stuff. Airflow is terrible and it has no rubber parts to make it in the least quieter.

I did purchase it already. I was looking at the intel line but "quote me if I am wrong" a bit pricey.

The main CPU I was planning on getting first was the FX8350 but my friend mentioned that if I plan to overclock to get the newest revision which was the 8370 which is more stable of the 83xx line without jumping to the FX93xx and FX95xx series.

I know its not a lot of ram but its what I could afford at this moment, I do plan to swap out all the ram and pick up a 16GB (2x8GB)

Should have gotten 1x8 or 2x4, oh well. :I

lower end i5's still outperform for around the same price. (at least in gaming)

I know its not the best case in the world. I only bought it because MicroCenter had a super sale for them for $29.99. I plan to move everything over to the Cooler Master Scout II when it arrives.

I did buy 2x4.

Thing is I am not too familiar with the intel line, The only intel I have is the iMac and the rest of the pre built pcs I've owned were AMD.

oh okay, I can possibly return the cards and do 4x2

that would make the upgrade much easier, especially since I don't forsee you going anything past 16gb anyway (maybe like 20, but even 16 is slightly overkill. Oh I wish there was 12gb kits that didn't force single channel operation ,as that is such a sweet spot imo. (I will often go over 8gb, but never hit 16gb)
