I have a tight budget of £160. I need the best I can possibly get for that price. I would like it to have at least 6gb of ram and the GPU is no issue as I already have a GTX 460. I don't need an OS or storage, pretty much just ram, cpu, case, power supply and motherboard. If possible I would like an LGA1150 cpu/mobo but if not then that is ok. It also needs to be much more powerful than the build currently in my profile.

I know I ask a lot for this budget but I believe it to somehow be possible.

PS. £160 is about $240 US Dollars and about $303 Canadian Dollars.

Current PC build:

=== CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 (Anniversary Edition)  === Motherboard: Asus H81m-PLUS  === RAM: 8gb DDR3 === GPU: GTX 460 (Considering the RX 480) === Case: Corsair SPEC-01 === Storage: 2x 160gb 7200rpm HDD and 1x 500gb 7200rpm HDD === PSU: EVGA 500w === Cooling: Intel Stock Cooling ===

Canadian dollars.

For 160, you can't really do anything decent...

One of my friends got a stupid cheap PC (like 190 pounds) and that had an AMD APU (5350 I believe) and a GT 730, with 4GB of ram and a 240GB Kingston V300.

Sig under construction.

It will be VERY hard to get you all the components NEW for that price...i definitely recommend seeing what you can get used. That being said, this might be an option...

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor  (£51.99 @ Ebuyer)  <----overclockable
Motherboard: Asus H81M-PLUS Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£39.97 @ Amazon UK)  <-----supports overclocking with BIOS update
Memory: Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£48.51 @ Amazon UK) <----cheap 8GB ram(this is one area I think you could find much cheaper used RAM)
Case: Cooler Master K380 ATX Mid Tower Case  (£23.99 @ Amazon UK) <---many options for cases...some used cases will have a PSU/Case combo for cheaper
Power Supply: EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply  (£25.87 @ Amazon UK) <-----see above, although a 430W PSU with your GPU and CPU will be fine
Total: £190.33
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

That's definitely an option.

What are you trying to do on this machine? Also, where in the UK are you?

I am trying to game on it, use photoshop and have a fair amount of tabs/windows and a youtube music stream open while playing Garry's Mod (as I own a Garry's Mod server and usually have a ton of tabs open consisting of the server console, playermodels and stuff to add and my forums site.)

Is the  Asus H81M-PLUS compatible with the g3258 out of the box?

  • Some Intel H81 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.

Says this on pc part picker. ^

I know that most newer H81 motherboards are compatible with Haswell Refresh CPUs but I just want to be sure.

Screw a case. Go with an open air "test bench" style build.

Also, what could I use as a test bench? Not sure a cardboard box would do the trick, and I would be worried about my GPU getting damaged.

I'll look up an open air design to get some ideas.
