Cpu PCI-E lanes

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

My mobo is H97 though. Will this make a difference?

H97 also has 8 chipset PCIe lanes that are used for X1 slots. It will work fine.

My cpu only supports 16 pcie lanes. What happens if i put a 16x graphics card and a 1x wifi card into my motherboard?

you will put the 1x card into the 1x slot which is usually wired to the PCH which has some additional 8 2.0 lanes :)

The 16 PCIe lanes from the CPU only affect the 16X slots on the motherboard. The 1X slots run off the 8 PCIe lanes from the chipset. In total there's actually 24 PCIe lanes on 9-series boards (without PLX chip) but only 16 can be used for graphics.
